Vivaldi: "Summer"

As some of the commenters noted on my list of the most metal classical compositions, I missed a few. Well, I had to narrow the field somehow. Anyway, the third movement of Vivaldi's "Summer" is metal as hell (much of "Summer" and "Winter" are metal)--and given the heat wave going through most of the country right now, it seems appropriate.

  1. Awesome!

When I was a teenager, studying music theory, my music director used to play Verdi's Requeim - "Dies Irae" and comment on how it was the heavy metal of classical music . . . even though it's technically an opera.

I didn't see Verdi's Requeim - "Dies Irae" on your classical composition list nor see any comments suggesting it; if you haven't heard the song, I highly recommend you check it out! It truly is the heaviest classical composition I've ever heard. I mean, its most featured instrument (or rather, that which is the most striking [pun intended]) is the bass drum. It's truly a bad-ass song.
